The conference brought together leading international scientific experts to deal with issues of climate change, to discuss the impact on ecosystems and humans, mitigation and adaptation strategies as well as their political aspects.

The event was taken place just weeks before the crucial United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen this December, where representatives from 192 countries will negotiate a new international agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol and establish mandatory plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Greenpeace seeks to ensure that the result of the conference in Copenhagen is an effective contract stipulating a commitment that would lead to a real and effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The aim of the conference was to contribute to the enrichment of the professional climate debate in the Czech Republic and strengthen the interest of politicians, civil servants, media and the general public about this issue.

Many people in the Czech Republic still do not consider global climate change to be a serious problem and its impact scenarios are often unqualifiedly disputed. The latest scientific knowledge and evidence of the specific impacts of climate change on Europe and the Czech Republic was therefore presented in Prague by leading international experts.
